Born on 6th April, 1969 at Hong village of Lower Subansiri District, Arunachal Pradesh. He studied at Government Higher Secondary School, Ziro (Now DNGHSS). Completed BA (Hons) and MA at Arunachal University (Now RGU), and LLB degree from North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong. He enrolled as an Advocate on 23rd May 2000 and practiced in Trial Courts in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and in the Gauhati High Court. He served as General Secretary of Gauhati High Court Itanagar Permanent Bench Bar Association during 2008-2010. The first recruitment of Judicial Officers for the State of Arunachal Pradesh was held in 2009 and he topped the Arunachal Pradesh Judicial Service Examination becoming the first Judicial Officer to be appointed as the District and Sessions Judge on 31st March 2010. He served in Tezu, Yupia and Pasighat districts of Arunachal Pradesh. He also served as Member Secretary, Arunachal Pradesh State Legal Services Authority (APSLSA) and Registrar at the Gauhati High Court, Itanagar Permanent Bench, Naharlagun/Yupia before being appointed as Additional Judge of the Gauhati High Court on 12th September 2023.

Justice Anjan Moni Kalita was born to Late Tulashi Ram Kalita and Mrs. Renu Prova Kalita. Belonging to a Non-Lawyers’ Family, he completed his matriculation with distinctions from Cotton Collegiate School, Guwahati and completed his Higher Secondary (Science) from Cotton College, Guwahati. He went to Delhi University for his Graduation in Arts (History) and after completion of his Bachelor of Arts, completed his LL.B. from Campus Law Center, Delhi University in 1995. Justice Kalita enrolled in the Bar Council of Assam, Nagaland, Mizoram etc. and joined the Gauhati High Court Bar to pursue his legal career. He practiced mainly in the writ and criminal side till late 2000. Justice Kalita shifted his practice to Delhi and joined a Corporate Law Firm of repute wherein he practiced mainly in the Infrastructure, Energy and Power Sector. He worked in many big power and infrastructure projects in India. In the year 2002, he took a break from practice and went to do his LL.M. in Corporate and International Finance Law from the University of Hong Kong in Hong Kong. He completed his LL.M. as one amongst the toppers of his batch and after working there for some time in Hong Kong in a Corporate Law Firm, he came back to India in 2004. He practiced in the Delhi High Court and the Supreme Court of India for few years before joining in a leadership role in legal team in a Multi-National Company. He worked for about ten years in various MNCs in leadership Roles in the capacities of Vice-President (Asia-Pacific), Country Head etc. During his stint as In-House Counsel, he worked in various sectors like Oil & Gas, Mines & Minerals, Infrastructure, Cement and Power Sector. He came back to litigation again in 2017 and started practicing in the Gauhati High Court. Justice Kalita was Standing Counsel for various Departments of Government of Assam, including Home & Political Dept. (Foreigners’ issues), Industries & Commerce Department, NRC (Assam) etc. He appeared for various PSUs, like Numaligarh Refinery Ltd. (NRL), Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (IOCL), Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE) etc. as their legal Counsel. He was appointed as the Additional Advocate General of the State of Mizoram in 2023 and appeared for the State of Mizoram in many important Constitutional and Civil matters. He was elevated as an Additional Judge of the Gauhati High Court on 30th July, 2025.
